If you want to know how to delete facebook forever, read the following tutorial. Note that this will really delete your account permanently and forever!

These simple steps will show you how to delete your Facebook account forever:

1. Login to your Facebook account
2. The official "delete your Facebook account" link is here (click it):
http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=delete_account
3. Now just follow the prompts. You'll be asked to confirm the deletion of you Facebook account, you'll be asked for your Facebook password, and you'll be asked to enter a Facebook security code or captcha. One more button to confirm the deletion of you Facebook account and that's it.
4. Important: to delete your Facebook account forever, you mustn't login or interact with your account for 14 consecutive days. Doing so will restart the whole process. Just be patient. After the 14 days are up, you can check to see if your Facebook account has in fact been deleted.

To those of you who remain unfamiliar with Xat.com and their Xat chats, this is for you.

Xat chats, which we were introduced to in late 2007 and blogged about here in mid 2008 have been stealthily growing and growing. Just as we said in '08, the site has grown and matured into something fantastically addictive and very very social.

So what is Xat exactly? Xat is a site that allows users to create a branded (think vanity URL) Xat chat group. Users are able to change their Xat chat background, its page background, choose their own avatars, and also (this is important!) incorporate full fledged websites below their Xat chats.

Xat, of course, is much more than just that. There is something very social about the Xat site that makes it stand out from the likes of Myspace, Facebook, and really any traditional social network type site(s) . Users of Xat can for example, purchase "days and xats" (Xat's own site currency) to purchase and trade Xat addons (called Xat powers). These "powers", some of which are highly sought out, have become a central feature of the Xat site and give regular users a unique way to stand out from everyone else.

Short of registering at the Xat site and trying some of these things out yourself, you'll just have to take my word for it. :)

Also, if you're looking for a Xat resource site and some good instruction to help you get started, I highly recommend Xatworld.com (for english) and Mundoxat.com (Spanish). I'll be posting a few odds and ends from each Xat resource site to get you pointed in the right direction.

Snapvine, the site that introduced voice commenting for your Myspace profile, has several new widgets in the works. The latest, Talking Photo, allows you to add voice (by microphone or via telephone by calling a local access number) to any picture or photo. That image can then be embedded into your own profile or as a comment on your friends profile.

Delete fields from a Myspace Music Band profile - Hide!

Have you ever wanted to hide, remove, or delete a part of your Myspace Music profile? Most of us know that there are a multitude of sites out there that provide hide codes for the standard Myspace profile. I haven't come across many that provide hide codes for a Myspace Music band profile.

Here's how to hide texts or tables that you no longer want on your Myspace Band profile page:

1. Log into your Myspace music profile page
2. Click on HOME
3. Click on SAFE MODE (located to the right of EDIT PROFILE)
4. You should be on the EDIT BAND INTERESTS page. Now Simply click on the DELETE link and that table will be removed from your Myspace Music bands page.

It's that simple :)

Ygrab, creators of the aforementioned Myspace Music download site, have another site that allows you to download Youtube videos, for free. Again, the Youtube site works much like the Myspace music site does. You simply copy the URL of the Youtube video you'd like to download, then click the download button. You'll be prompted to save the Youtube video to your desktop. That file can then be played using the VLC media player.

MyspaceGrab has launched a new site that allows you to download the Mp3 music from any Myspace Music band profile in Mp3 format.

You simply enter your favorite bands Myspace URL (http://www.myspace.com/U2 for example), then click the "MYSPACE GRAB" button. A results page lists all Mp3's on that particular Myspace Music profile. You can then listen to them individually and apparently, save them to your desktop using your browsers FILE>>SAVE AS (IE) or FILE>>SAVE PAGE AS (Firefox) option.

Flipframes has a new flash slide show widget for your MySpace profile or layout. All pretty straightforward stuff: you choose your frame, upload some images, and cut and paste the code to your MySpace profile.

Although it isn't clearly mentioned on the home page, Flipframes also seems to be working on a prize for flips program. It works like this; every time someone views or "flips" through your slide show, you earn "Check$". Those Check$ can later be redeemed for prizes. Details are a little sketchy right now, but keep an eye out for updates as they prepare to roll it out.

Polaroize is a site that allows you to add an old-school Polaroid effect to any of your MySpace pictures. You simply select any picture from your PC and upload it to the Polaroize site. You can optionally choose the size at which it is displayed. The final image needs to be saved to your PC and uploaded to your MySpace profile in the normal manner.

The only problem is in saving the picture (disabled apparently). If you know how to take a screenshot and can use a graphics program you should be fine.

Divshare, another file hosting service, released a new flash Mp3 player for MySpace that allows you to stream music right to your profile. In simpler terms, this new move my Divshare allows you to upload your MP3's, click a button, and instantly get the code to embed the player right to your profile. Even better, registration is optional; you get their snazzy flash player, a place to host your MP3's, and the embed code for your MySpace profile - win , win, and win! :)

The player itself, at least the free/unregistered user version, comes in standard iPod white. Limitations include not being able to add multiple music tracks to the player (you are unfortunately limited to just one song per player). However, like some other sites that offer MP3 players, you could just litter your MySpace profile with multiple players if one doesn't cut it. Not pretty, but it does get the job done.

MySpace Mexico launched (sort of) - Spanish!

A couple of week ago MySpace launched what I then referred to as a Spanish MySpace. Scratch that. What MySpace had launched was MySpace Spain (España). Now, MySpace has gone and launched MySpace Mexico, yet another Spanish version of their site.

The site itself is apparently still in beta testing and, although there is some mention of it on their international site page, the actual MySpace Mexico link is still not active. My understanding is that after an initial period of testing, about two weeks, MySpace Mexico will be available via its official link (http://mx.myspace.com).

Apart from the standard "slideshow" widget (they have three variations), GoodWidgets has a pretty trick looking light box slide show, a stack slide show, and an amazing book slide show (try that one!).

GoodWidgets allows you to import your pictures directly from your Flickr, Photobucket, or your "23" account - you can of course upload directly from your computer as well.

Parents monitoring your Myspace profile - Project Zephyr

The WSJ has an article on some new big-brother'esque spying software that MySpace is apparently working on. The software, code named "Zephyr", will allow your _____ (insert authoritative figure here; i.e. parent, parents, guardian etc...) to monitor specific information on your MySpace profile. Once installed this person would be handed a snapshot of your profile name, age, and location (all freely available anyway). If one or more of these profile details were to change, say you up your age from 15 to 21 for example, they would be alerted via the installed Zephyr software.

WSJ says:

"...A parent can download the free software onto his or her home computers. The software will identify any user who logs onto MySpace from those computers and collect his or her user name, age, and hometown. That information will be stored on the hard drive and parents (actually, whoever has the administrative privileges on that computer) can access it using a password..."

If this sort of thing concerns you, now would be a good time to find out about it. :)

World Picture Travel Map for your Myspace profile

If you like to travel (and gloat about it on your Myspace profile), then Travbuddy has a map widget just for you. The Travbuddy map lets you preselect those states and countries that you've already visited. Those places are then highlighted and displayed on a world map which can then be pasted to your Myspace profile. A counter at the top of each world map calculates what percentage of the world you've actually visited (I scored a whopping 13%!).

There are three maps sizes to choose from but, unless you can accept some serious Myspace profile deformation, you're best bet is the small map at 400 x 258 pixels.

Clicking on the highlighted countries, in theory (Myspace doesn't allow this), takes your visitors right to the Travbuddy website: A social networking site for fellow travelers.

Add a Myspace band music player to your profile

Most Myspace users have come across the schmancy Myspace mp3 music player that has only been available to a small, elite group of users with a MySpace Music account. To get one, at least by-the-books, you had to be a musician.

The site Jukeshare has found a way to isolate and add the MP3 music player of any Myspace music profile to any Myspace profile (even a basic one). You are unfortunately limited to the same songs that are on your bands Myspace profile; but still, it's something.

Add a Myspace band Mp3 music player to your profile

You can choose from a list of artists listed on the Jukeshare site, or you can cut and paste the URL of your favorite Myspace band and Jukeshare will instantly create the new code for you. That code is then pasted wherever you'd like the player to appear.

Leave/get Myspace video comments - Flikzor

Flikzor, now in private beta with um (*checking*), about 48 passes left, allows you to leave/receive Myspace video comments instead of old run-of-the-mill text comments. Flikzor creator(s), Dave (Trakzor) and Dan, or Dan and Dave (*chuckle*), foresee a day when you will be able to pull up a chair, kick up your feet, and Myspace comment all of your friends with a webcam and/or a microphone. Typing is just so 2006!

Seriously now, what Flikzor does is allow you to send and receive video messages (a "Flik") right from your Myspace profile. You do this by copying and pasting a code snippet and dropping it into your Myspace profile. A small widget then serves as your messaging platform and interacts with your webcam, microphone, or both. Your friends then get to send you video messages, and video comments directly on your MySpace profile, or wherever else you put the flikzor widget. Interesting.

Pikipimp has a cool site that allows you to add "bling" to your Myspace pictures and images. It´s all pretty straightforward. You upload your picture or image. Then, using a drag and drop interface, you get to choose from a long list of add-ons: beards, eyeglasses, chest hair, wigs, teeth, tongues, tattoos, etc...you get the idea. They also have some more appropriately themed Christmas goodies for this time of year that you can add to your Myspace pictures. Each add-on can be independently resized and positioned until you get it just right. When you´re done everything gets saved to the Pikipimp site and can optionally be submitted to their gallery. Your final image can be pasted to your Myspace profile via some Myspace code, emailed to a friend, or you the pimped image can be saved right to your computer.

I tried it out myself and, "for now", it is does what it claims; it hides/removes the Myspace Google search box.

Text messaging from your Myspace profile to your mobile phone

The O-Widgets site has a new service that allows you to send/receive text (sms) messages from a Myspace profile to a cell/mobile phone. The service, called otxt, requires you to supply the usual: cell number (most do), email address, etc... In return, otxt supplies the code needed for your Myspace profile. You simply paste it, in edit mode, wherever you want the widget to appear. Your Myspace profile visitors are presented with a clean, easy to use, SMS messenger that is connected right to your cell or mobile phone. Your number remains completely private.

During setup you are also given the option to allow only a certain number of text messaging per day, week, or month - great for keeping things in check.

Temporary email addresses to test out your Myspace goods

Over the weekend, okay, not really, on Friday actually, email "turned" 35 - that´s 35 years! Whatever your opinion might be, good or bad, you´ll admit that email has had a pretty nice run.

In light of that, I´d like to show you a way to cut down on spam while trying out some of the Myspace goodies featured here on Web Tracker.

10 Minute Mail, as you might guess, is a site that assigns you a temporary (ten minute) email address. You go here, click on the "Get my 10 Minute Mail e-mail address" link and your presented with just that; an email address that is good for exactly 10 minutes. The idea being that within that time you should be able to subscribe/sign up for some new product or site, get and respond to a confirmation email, and then decide whether or not it´s something that interests you or not. No need to give out your own email if you have no plans on using a particular product or service, don´chya think?

Temporary email

The landing page itself provides you with a countdown from 10 to 0 minutes at which point your email address self destructs. Any email delivered to your temporary email address should, in practice, show up on the same page. If you do happen to need more time, you simply click a link and the counter is reset to 10 minutes. That´s it.

Free online video mixing for your Myspace profile - MuveeMix

Looking to create, mix, and share your personal videos on Myspace? MuveeMix allows you to create video mixes and slideshows, called "Muvees", from your digital video, photos, and music - without the need for any video editing.

A simple four step MuveeMix process allows you to add pictures/video, add music (Mp3), select from various themes/styles and add a title. After that, your Muvee is complete. Some minutes later, after some Muvee magic, you're emailed a link to your player where you'll find the Myspace embed code.

One caveat to using the Muvee player. It too suffers from a familiar Myspace "glitch". That is, if you want things to look "perfect" you'll need to manually remove the <object> tags that surround the code. If you choose not to, it'll still work, but there will just be a line or two of broken code right above the player. No biggie. :)

All in all the site is nicely designed and very easy to use. So get your video groove on and go make a Muvee!

Myspace profile blog tracker/tracking - Mixmap!

Fresh news coming from the Mixmap website. Yesterday, Mixmap sent out an email introducing a new "Myspace blog version" of their tracker. Mixmap's new Myspace blog tracker allows you to see how many people are visting and/or reading your Myspace blog.

If you already have a Mixmap web tracker you'll simply be creating another within the same account that works independent of the existing one. In fact, you can create as many as you like.

Login to your Mixmap account, and look for the orange "Make a Myspace Blog Tracker" link (upper right).

Mixmap has some nicely detailed instructions on their site blog.

Like their original Myspace tracker, you do have the option of using either an invisible tracker, or setting it to be publicly viewable.

On a side note, the Mixmap team has been doing a fantastic job at making improvements to their site and notifying the Mixmap users of new developments and changes. Excellent!

Add a collage to your Myspace layout - Dundoo

Dundoo, which launched a few weeks ago, has an easy to use collage creation tool that's setup for the various high-profile social networks - Myspace included of course.

To get it, you choose the number of pictures you'd like to use (up to 30), select the layout (horizontal or vertical positioning), then make adjustments to the size and spacing of the pictures (referred to as Icons). You then upload your pictures, which can optionally be tagged and kept public or private, preview, and get the code to add them to your Myspace profile. All very simple and extremely easy to follow.

I am a little disappointed by one thing though. I think that a site as well thought out as Dundoo should rethink the design of the collage itself. For me, it's missing a general "coolness" factor that the younger Myspace crowds tend to lock on to ; sites like Slide and Rockyou, although they do offer something a little different, come to mind.

All in all, I still think it's worth a look and I think they deserve props for the effort they put into the sites easy to use interface/navigation.

Mypictr, in what has to be one of the simplest sites to use that I've come across, allows you to create/modify profile pics (avatars) for social networking sites like Myspace.

Just upload your picture or image, choose your social networking site (*cough* Myspace *cough*), position the crop box where you'd like it (adjust the zoom slider), then, when you're ready, click the "PictrIt" button. Mypictr then presents you with a link that once clicked downloads the image/picture to your computer. Simple, practical, and Awesooooooooome! Everything should be this easy.

Free fun Image generators for Myspace - Image Chef

Image Chef, an image generator site, has some cool new templates that can be used to create customized images for you Myspace profile.

It's pretty straightforward stuff; You go to the site, select the template/generator that you'd like to use, enter your text, and click a button. Image chef returns a preview of your customized Myspace image. You'll have the option of clicking a checkout button that will take you right to your image. From there you simply download it to your computer and then get to spend the next fifty-two minutes figuring out how to place it on your Myspace profile. Hmmmm...Hang on! There is an alternative to this madness. If you FIRST register at Image Chef, they kindly host the images for you for free and also provide the code to insert them into your Myspace profile. Whew!

The only thing I'm wondering about is who had this idea first...The images offered at Image Chef closely, no, EXACTLY match the Rockyou Txt Pix images (or vice-versa) that I profiled earlier this month. Give 'em both a look.

Play semi-random music videos on your Myspace profile

Fidget, a site that finds videos by your favorite artists and displays them wherever you'd like, has an interesting new Myspace profile widget.

It's pretty simple to try out. Go here, give your player a title/headline, add some artists, then click the "Generate Code" button. Paste the code anywhere in your Myspace profile.

The Myspace embeddable Fidget player then serves up random Youtube videos based on the artists you've chosen. You'll get a new one everytime your visit your profile or refresh the page.

Best I can tell, Fidget scans Youtube tags and returns ANYTHING that matches your specified artist. One minute you might get a Shakira music video, the next a dog doing backflips to a Shakira music track - think of it as ~~Russian~~ Video Roulette.

It still is kind of entertaining and does make for a more dynamic Myspace profile, seeing as how you never really know what'll turn up there, so go and give it a try.

One more thing, if you're STILL using Internet Explorer (Why oh why! *frantically pulling hair out*) you'll get this message:

"Fidget doesn't work in Internet Explorer (yet), so go get Firefox"

Free-to-use images for your Myspace profile - Color Specific

Looking to add some snazzy design flare to your Myspace profile or layout? Yotophoto, a search engine for free-to-use stock photographs and images, has a cool new way for you to find color specific images for your Myspace profile.

Go here, fill in the Color Search field, click Advanced Search, and Yotophoto will return pages of color-matching, high-quality pics.

You can enter a color code in hexadecimal notation (as used in Photoshop) or, by visually selecting colors using their color picker.

Back in the day, when Myspace offered up their meager Top 8 friends list, we worked with what we were given. We scrutinized, philosophized, and reluctantly ___'ized some of our "friends" right out of the coveted Top 8 position. Battles ensued as a virtual "shot around the world" made its way across the Myspace network; friendships were put to the test.

In July '06, Myspace came to the rescue with their "brilliantly conceived" (unadulterated synaptic genius!) Top 24 friends list. Of course this, like its older bro' "Top 8", was destined to fail as well.

Q: What do you do with 25+ "Top" friends, when you only have 24 "Top" spots to fill?
A: Use R4wr (a.k.a. The original Myspace friend space generator).

R4wr's Myspace custom friend space generator

R4wr is a site that, with some effort, will allow to push, pull, and stretch far beyond the limits of your generic Myspace friend layout. For starters, it'll allow you to accommodate up to a whopping 40 of your "bestest" friends. You can set them up in any column/row configuration that you like. Other options include, tweaking the title and friends text, hiding/scrolling comments, and showing/hiding a bunch of other Myspace variables.

It's relatively easy to use but does take some effort to complete as the URL of each of your friends Myspace profile and Myspace picture has to be entered in manually. If you do run into any trouble, the site does offer a nice FAQ and an even nicer Tutorial.

I've been using the very cool TheSpringBox Rss feed widget here on Web Tracker for a few weeks now (see middle right of this page). This particular widget can ALSO be placed on a Myspace profile . Simply click the TheSpringBox Widgetize button, choose your widget, widget size, add the URL of the RSS feed you'd like to syndicate, then click Apply. You'll get a snippet of code that can be placed anywhere on your Myspace profile. They also offer a clock widget, a weather room widget, and two sports style widgets. Give 'em a look.

If you'd like to share your quiz and throw it up on your Myspace profile, look for the Share Your Creations link on the right navigation bar; it's right under the Registered users heading. You'll be taken to another screen where you can fully customize the look of your quiz. You can change the adjust the size of your quiz as well as its colors. When you're ready, you can either cut and paste their embed code or, you can have the quiz placed directly on your Myspace profile; You get to specify where (your Music, General, Movies, Television, Books, or Heroes section).

Apart from the quizzes the site has quite a bit more to offer: Lyrics, poems, stories, forums, journaling, games, etc... It also has bit of a community feel; users can share each others quizzes, send each other messages, read each others journals, and blah blah blah - the have a lot going on. :)

You do have to jump through a few hoops to get your quiz published and it's definitely not the easiest site to navigate, but now that MTV has snatched them up hopefully they'll work on that and we'll get to see something new.

Popularity vote for your Myspace profile - Mikudo

Here's a...ummm...well...I'm not really sure how you would use this. The sites tagline is "Express yourself easier with Mikudo" but to be honest I'm having a hard time "getting it".

The idea here, I think (they really do need a blog or FAQ), is to place the Mikudo bar somewhere on your site/Myspace profile and have it serve as a popularity vote style widget. People get to click on "High-five" if they LIKE you/it, "Slap" if they HATE you, or "Crush" if they...um...LOVE you.

To get it, register (email required), login, and generate a bar that looks like this:

You can choose to omit any one of the above icons, or you can keep them all. When you're done the bar can be pasted via some embed code anywhere to your Myspace profile.

Personally I don't think the icons are descriptive enough. A thumbs up/down icon, both universally understood, seem to have been the way to go here. Even with the little "?" at the upper left of each bar explaining the significance of each of the icons, without someone clicking on it it's not really clear what they're voting on.

Resize a Youtube video for Myspace

Youtube videos a smidge too big? No problem. Here are a couple of ways to resize them so that they fit into your Myspace profile a little better.

Method one is simply to change the WIDTH and HEIGHT right in the Youtube code. You'll have to keep things in proportion for everything to look right.

An easier way is to get the Youtube URL of your favorite Youtube video. Then, using Mod My Profiles new Youtube Video Editor, click on the Youtube URL tab. There, paste your URL and click the Get it button. You'll be given three options to choose from: Normal (425 x 350), Half size (213 x 175), and Tiny (134 x 107). Choose the one that you want and cut and paste its code to your Myspace profile.

While we wait on the Myspace Youtube (not Utube/Utube.com!) verdict...

The controversy surrounding this weeks Google/Youtube/Myspace news is causing quite a bit of commotion.

So much traffic has been generated that it has been causing problems for a small company in Ohio (Utube/Utube.com). Apparently they sell "tubing". People, trying to get to "Youtube.com", are mistakenly searching for "Utube/Utube.com".

It seems that Utube purchased Utube.com back as 1996. Their immediate problem is that the Youtube.com/Utube.com mix up has crippled the Utube website. The sudden influx of Youtube user traffic has practically taken Utube/Utube.com offline.

The good news for Utube/Utube.com is that offers to buy up their Utube.com domain name have been coming in since Monday from as little as $200 to as much as $4,000,000.

Harper Reed has created a cool little Youtube badge maker that works with Myspace (for now anyway). The badge shows your six most recent Youtube video uploads (in image form) and links directly to your Youtube profile page. Again, they have to be YOUR video uploads. If you haven't uploaded any Youtube videos of your own, you won't have content to display in your badge - It took me a few minutes to figure that one out. :)

Anyway, for those of you that DO have videos on Youtube, it's really easy to use. You enter your Youtube username, then click the GET CODE button. You'll get a snippet of code. Paste that code to your Myspace profile where ever you'd like the Youtube badge to be displayed.

Add this to your list of things to watch out for when checking out random Myspace profiles: the Myspace "Adult content viewer" Adware scam.

How it works:

You're visiting a Myspace profile. You get a pop-up (a rather big one) that says:

This profile contains adult content

Click here to install Myspace adult content viewer

Looks legit. Must be some new Myspace feature right? Nope. If you click on the link you'll get a second pop-up; one prompting you to download and install Myspacecontent.exe, an executable file which apparently is Adware (not something you want on your computer). DO NOT install it.

Here's what it might look like. I say "might" because if enough people know about it they'll more than likely change the look of their delivery.

Myspace Google rift - Youtube banned from Myspace?

It seems that people over at Myspace are expressing "displeasure" at Google's Monday morning 1.6 billion dollar ($1,600,000,000!) Youtube acquisition.

...Over the weekend, News Corp. executives expressed their displeasure with the deal to Google and threatened to remove any links to YouTube videos placed by users on their MySpace blog pages, according to a person close to the situation. Google's Mr. Schmidt and Advertising Sales Vice President Tim Armstrong are scheduled to meet this week in Los Angeles with News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch, President Peter Chernin and Ross Levinsohn, head of its Fox Interactive Media online unit, to discuss the matter...

Now that Myspace is in the picture, it becomes relevant to us and I can mention it here. :)

Anyway, here's what's going on.

- There has been an ongoing rivalry between Myspace and Youtube from as early as last year. Back then, Myspace went as far as blocking/banning any Youtube reference on its site; be it link or video. After public outcry Myspace flipped the switch back on and simply said that there had been a "misunderstanding".

- August 2006, Myspace secures a 900 million dollar advertising deal from Google whereby Google, using its own AdSense network, is allowed to deliver contextually targeted ads across the Myspace network.

- September 2006, Myspace's Rupert Murdoch predicts that Myspace Video will overtake Youtube Video as the market leader in the 60-70 days time.

- October 9, 2006, Google purchases Youtube for unprecedented 1.6 billion dollars.

So that's it. Now that Google has purchased Youtube...well...things could get ugly. Meetings have been scheduled this week to discuss the matter but apparently the whole Gootube deal isn't sitting to well with Myspace.

For now, keep your eyes open for banned Youtube videos and links and we'll see what comes of these meetings.

If you haven't been to Rockyou for a while you might want to have a look at their still in beta, Glitter Fxtext word maker. A very cool Myspace bling generator!

With it, you can easily make your own glitter text for Myspace. This is not the ordinary glitter word maker that has popped up on just about every Myspace layout site; this is much slicker!

Currently their glitter generator offers five presets: Word, Pinkie, Swirls, Greenie, and Curlie. Additionally, using some flash based sliders, you can easily tweak font size, spacing, and rotation (among other things) to create your own personalized glitter text/word.

When you're done, your glitter words can be pasted anywhere really; to your Myspace profile, Myspace comments, your blog, etc...Just click the big green "grab the code" button when you're done.

How to insert an image in a Myspace bulletin

A few days back in my post titled Insert a link into a Myspace bulletin - How to, I made a quick reference to getting an IMAGE link into a Myspace bulletin. I just wanted to point out that the same code can also be used to place IMAGES in your Myspace profile, Myspace bulletins, and Myspace comments.

Briefly, you'd do this (these are just the basics as there are other more advanced options that can also be used):

1. Paste this code where you want the image to go.

<img src=" ">

2. Between those quotes paste the URL (internet location) of your image. Like before, I'm assuming that you have your picture hosted (Imageshack, Photobucket, Allyoucanupload, etc...) somewhere on the internet (email me if you don't understand what I mean).

It would look something like this:

<img src="http://www.ThePlaceYourImageIsStored.com/YourPic.jpg" />

That's it really. This code could be pasted anywhere you want your picture to show up in your Myspace profile.

Recently acquired (by Yahoo no less) Jumpcut, is a site that combines video uploading, editing, and re/mixing; tying them together, quite nicely I might add, into a video editing community of sorts. Users can form their own groups, collaborate, share and remix each others pictures and video clips, and when they're ready, their creations can be shared via a Myspace code snippet that is perfectly suited for a Myspace profile or blog.

The most notable feature of the Jumpcut site is their clean flash interface that allows its users manipulate video and/or picture, add music, titles, transitions, and various other effects. If video isn't your thing, you can of course stick to pictures and still make a cool Myspace slide show set to music; it's up to you.

This is one of the more complete video editing sites that I've come across and, now that it's happened, the Yahoo acquisition isn't surprising. It'll be interesting to see where they take Jumpcut from here.

Add picture and video from your mobile phone to your Myspace profile

Nakama brings us yet another alternative in the already crowded mobile media sharing market. Nakama allows you to upload pictures and video straight to your Myspace profile via your mobile phone. Like other sites that I've mentioned (Fotodunk, Mojungle, Shozu, Umundo), you simply use your mobile phone to take your pictures or video while you're out and about then send them to a specified email address. They are then uploaded directly to your Nakama gallery where they can be shared with other Nakama users. If you've optionally pasted their Myspace html code to your profile, they'll also show up there as well.

Tagging, rating, RSS feeds, and commenting, all pretty standard features, are also supported via the Nakama social network, but one feature that makes Nakama stand apart from the rest is the ability to add voice comments to selected media after your upload is complete; Nakama simply calls you back and you then record your short message.

Badder Adder is a program that allows you some surprising flexibility in adding mass amounts of friends to your Myspace profile; it's a friend adder.

In addition to adding friends, Badder Adder also serves as a Myspace commenter, a Myspace messenger, and a Myspace bulletin poster; think of it as Myspace on steriods.

Here are some of the highlights mentioned on their site:

You can send unlimited friend requests each day - and never have to enter in CAPTCHA (image verification) codes.
Gather ID's from any page on MySpace - steal someone else's friends, take friends from a MySpace Group, browse for friends based on zip code, relationship status, sex, age, etc.
Rotate through multiple comments so you don't send the same comment to all your friends.
Auto-post multiple bulletins at any time interval you select

To be honest, I've held off on mentioning Badder Adder before today because I haven't tried it out; nor do I plan on doing so :)

I'm thinking about introducing a new feature here on Web Tracker. My plan is to occasionally turn to my web logs and do my best to address any unfulfilled Myspace queries. We'll see how it goes.

Actual query: myspace how to insert a link into bulletins

This person is looking to insert a clickable link into their Myspace bulletin. Let's tackle this one.

How to get a TEXT link into a Myspace bulletin

1. Go to your Myspace POST BULLETIN page.
2. In the BODY of your Myspace bulletin, paste the following code:

<a href=""></a>

3. Between the quotes, type the web address (URL) where you intend to send your readers. For the sake of clarity, let's say that you want to post a bulletin link to my own site (Web Tracker); the URL would be http://web-tracker.blogspot.com.

Example:

<a href="http://web-tracker.blogspot.com"></a>

4. Now type your link text between the > and <. Again, for the sake of clarity, let's say your link text is Click here to go to a really cool site.

Your example would now look like this:

<a href="http://web-tracker.blogspot.com">Click here to go to a really cool site</a>

That's it really. Previewing your Myspace bulletin you'd see this:

...and you're done.

One variation of this is to have an image be the link rather than the text.

A slide show set to music for Myspace - iBloks

Here's a slide show (Myspace ready) with a slight twist; It allows you to add your own music track to it. This one's fun! :)

From the iBloks site:

"...With iBloks, you can mix your digital photos, music, videos, and games in 2D and 3D environments, share your personalized mix with friends, play iBloks from others, and remix content along the way..."

I'll add that the description doesn't begin to describe how cool this product really is. On my test run I was able to quickly create a slide show, add my own music track to it, and play it as if it were a movie. It really adds more depth and dimension to your slide shows and makes the other ones look dull and boring. To draw on an analogy, it's the difference between watching a movie with a great soundtrack vs one without.

With iBloks you can create your own Myspace slide show set to music

When you're ready, the slide show can be shared with your friends via IM (instant messenger), mobile phone (in the works), and pasted to your Myspace profile via a snippet of code. Crazy! I love it!

A few things to watch for (a.k.a. Things I had trouble with):

You upload your images/pictures AND music via the same upload button
To share your movie and get the actual code you HAVE to check the Allow public viewing box. It's a little hard to find. You can get to it on the Mix Movie page, directly under the Movies icon, by clicking on your particular movie.
When you're ready to add your slide show to your Myspace profile, click on the RSS button (located on the Mix Movie page), then find your movie on your public movies page and click its link. The code it at the bottom of the page.
Currently the only supported music uploads are MP3's and unprotected WMA files. (no iTunes for now)

Keep in mind that iBloks IS still in beta; hopefully they'll work these things out a bit later.

Definitely try this out.

Those of you who still haven't discovered Myspace slide shows may yet have another to choose from. Bubbleshare, a community based photo sharing site, has a pretty slick slide show that's perfect for your Myspace profile!

Bubbleshare's album editor allows you to rotate your photos, add bubble captions, add text captions, add audio captions and much more!

You can also create and name multiple slide show albums and share them via your Myspace profile. Using several available slide show versions (Note: Myspace users need to stick to the Bubbleshare flash style slide show players) you simply paste the corresponding slide show code right into your Myspace profile.

Hiding unwanted but necessary images in Myspace

I often look through my web stats to see what sorts of things people are searching for. Yesterday, I saw one person looking for information on how to hide the Trakzor tracker image. I thought about it a bit, played around with an idea or two, and came up with a solution. How you choose to implement it is up to you.

Hiding things can be accomplished by using one DIV and confining whatever it is you want to hide to one section of your Myspace profile. One catch, you will have to sacrifice a Myspace profile category (Interests, Music, Movies, Television, Books, or Heroes) for this to work. This will serve as a container for the image(s) that you'd like to hide.

Briefly, what we're doing here is creating a box, sized and colored just right, that will cover whatever it is you're trying to hide.

Go to your Myspace EDIT PROFILE page and copy and paste the code below to the TOP (it must be the first thing listed) of your chosen category (delete anything that happens to be in there already). For this example, I chose the BOOKS category (see two below) .

This code should be pasted to the top of your chosen Myspace category

Find, copy, and paste the code of whatever you want to hide, below the code you just pasted (again, see below) .

Looking over the code that you pasted from the box above, there are three things that you'll be working with: the width value (green), height value (blue), and color code (red). Width and height will be used to stretch your box and the color code will be used to blend the boxes color to your existing Myspace profile color.

For now, save your changes and preview your Myspace profile. Mine looks like this (see below). As you can see, I'll still have to adjust the width and height values to stretch the box over the image.

I've made those changes below; a perfect fit! Next I would adjust the color of that god awful lime green to a more suitable light blue. To do this you can try using either an online color picker, or your own graphic programs built-in color picker. Either way you'll need to determine which color to use. Copy the six digit (not the "#") alphanumeric color code and use it in place of the color code (red) you already pasted. Now save and preview your Myspace profile.

After making changes to the width, height, and color code, this is what I end up with. The original image IS there, but it's been covered by the blue box that I created. It's officially hidden.

Just remember to keep adjusting the three variables: width, height, and color. Eventually you'll get it just right.

Code to move the Myspace music player - updated!

This past weekend all hell broke loose around here over some apparent changes that affected the code to hide the Myspace music player. Although I don't quite know what happened over at Myspace, be it intentional or not, I'm happy to say that a new code was in place within a couple of hours and the problem has now been resolved. Whew!

Funny Myspace bulletin - NOT! Beware of Phishing

A few days ago, I received my first scammy Myspace bulletin - A rather weak phishing attempt at getting me to enter my username and password on a bogus Myspace login page - Thanks, but I'll pass. Anyway, I thought I'd share my experience with you just in case you ever run into something similar or, in case you already have.

Phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy person or business in an electronic communication (source: Wikipedia). In our case, we're talking usernames and passwords and the "trustworthy business" that they are masquerading as, is Myspace.

Here's a look into a few of my fun-filled moments this past Tuesday night:

I logged into my Myspace account like any other day. In my bulletin section I noticed that a good friend of mine had posted a new funny bulletin titled, "OMG! Check this out!"(see below).

First word of caution. These bulletins CAN come from your very good friends; often your friends simply aren't aware that they are using an account that has been compromised.

Back to Tuesday night...

Clicking on the link I'm taken to the next screen where I get a brief, albeit vague, blurb about something that I apparently "have to see!". Of course, not a whole lot is going on this particular Tuesday night, so I bite! *click*.

The screen below shows where I was taken after clicking on the link. Hmmm...I'm being prompted to login to my Myspace account again. I wonder what happened? Oh well I'll just put my username and pass in the cute little boxes and get on to my "must see" bulletin link - NOT!

Look closely at the image above. What looks like a normal Myspace login page is in actuality, a cleverly crafted copy of a Myspace login page. Look at the URL highlighted in yellow. That's not the normal Myspace URL is it? The Phishers have simply appended "myspace.com" to the end of a bogus URL hoping to fool the unsuspecting; I'm guessing quite a few people fall for it. The URL, in fact, has nothing to do with Myspace at all. It's just a catch-all page that collects username and passwords from people that don't know any better. That's its sole purpose. The "have to see" bulletin that I was chasing...well...doesn't exist.

If this has happened to you GO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD now!

Things to think about while reading bulletins:

1. If you are prompted to enter your username and password after clicking a bulletin link, IT'S A SCAM! Do not give out your personal information. If you really think you've been logged out, close your browser, re-open it, TYPE http://www.myspace.com in the address bar and go there directly to login. If the bulletin still prompts you for your details, fugetaboutit!

2. This is more a personal choice but it will save you some IE (internet explorer) vulnerability headaches; Go download, and use the Firefox browser instead.

Myspace avatar maker - create your own!

ShrinkPictures.com, apart from having a pretty cool image resizing tool, has an equally cool avatar maker - prefect for your Myspace profile!

It's all pretty easy. Using the BROWSE button on their site, you locate a picture/image on your computer; presumably the one you'd like to use to make your Myspace avatar. You then type the your desired avatar size (it's in pixels). The picture will be reduced accordingly and squared. You'll get a series of three avatars to choose from, each cropped slightly different. Underneath each avatar you'll see a corresponding link. Just copy the one you want and you're ready to go.

Two things that you can do from here:

1. Take that URL (the one you copied), insert it into the code below and then paste the whole thing to your Myspace profile (anywhere you'd like it).

Note: You are only replacing the RED text with your copied avatar URL.

2. You can choose to SAVE the avatar image directly to your computer instead then do as you please. Simply position your mouse over the avatar image that you'd like then right click and select either SAVE IMAGE AS or SAVE PICTURE AS (depending on your browser). Done!

Resize a picture for a Myspace profile or comment - ResizR

If you've ever tried uploading a picture to Myspace using the Add/Edit photos link, you've more than likely met this little guy:

Myspace has a 600k picture size limit - You'll need to resize it.

If you're comfortable hosting your own picture, you might find this site useful.

ResizR, an online picture resizer, has by far the simplest, easiest to use interface that I've come across. Try it out here. Select a picture from your computer (BROWSE button) or from the web (FROM WEB tab). Then, using the slider, decide what pixel width you'd like your picture to be. The picture can be optionally rotated as well. Click the RESIZR button when you're finished. In a few seconds you'll get a preview of your resized picture. If you're not happy with the size, simply adjust the slider and again click the ResizR button.

Once complete, you will need to host the picture using the provided URL ("http" thingy). ResizR will delete all traces of your picture within 60 minutes, so hotlinking from your Myspace profile will unfortunately not work here.

All pretty simple and very handy if you want to resize a picture for your profile, blog, or to insert in your friends comment section.

4. Click MYSPACE text link to get webcam video code.

You'll get a Flixn pop-up entitled, MYSPACE CODE. Copy the contents in the pop-up box and paste it wherever you'd like: your Myspace profile page, blog, in a friends comments, etc...

Interactive Myspace layout profile editor - Customyzer!

Join me for a peek into the future; the future of Myspace layout editors.

Customyzer, has developed a nice flash based Myspace profile editor; very nice in fact! Users start with a default Myspace profile template, and through a series of clickable hotspots users are able to manipulate, modify, and customize their own virtual Myspace layout. Flash based drop down menus facilitate the process and changes are made on the fly; no page reloads and no wasted time.

But that's not all folks! Even more interesting, Customyzer has also incorporated an editor add-ons section. Using the same flash based interface, users can add a slideshow, add a customized comment box using a comment box generator, and use a text formatter (think of it as a word processor). Audio and video add-ons are also in the works.

I would like to see a WYSIWYG feature added to the text formatter - it's screaming for WYSIWYG functionality!

Overall, very well done! Layout add-ons are the future - just watch.

Mixmap vs Trakzor: Two Myspace profile Trackers

Today we're going to look at and compare two popular Myspace profile trackers; Mixmap and Trakzor.

About the profile tracker comparison:
For the purposes of this comparison I have decided to exclude web statistic type trackers; most of which have been banned. Instead, I have chosen to focus specifically on Myspace style profile trackers. Typically these types of trackers require users to become part of an online community. Those users that do, then become trackable via their Myspace profile. Those that do not are simply listed as anonymous and only their city, state, and time of visit are viewable.

My intent here, having previously written about Mixmap, was to find another tracker with similar features. After listening to my own readers gripes and wants, a little searching led me to discover Trakzor. Both trackers, according to Alexa, rank higher in traffic than any other Myspace profile tracker and, while each does have its own unique set of features, they also have notable similarities – A map style tracking interface for one. Let’s get started!

Myspace profile Tracker 1: Mixmap: "Mixmap: Profile Page Tracking and Mapping"
Myspace profile Tracker 2: Trakzor: "Community driven MySpace Tracker"

Tracking method:
Mixmap, as you might have guessed, tracks its users via an embeddable Myspace profile map. Once registered, Mixmap users are given a snippet of code that can be inserted into their Myspace profile page.

Trakzor instead, uses a prominently displayed Trakzor “You’ve been tracked” image to accomplish the same.

Viewing tracked vistors:
Mixmap, in addition to the Myspace profile map, also allows you to view your tracked visitors via a Google style map; accessible once you login to the Mixmap website. Myspace visitors show up as markers and can also be viewed/sorted via list format by age, sex, location, distance, etc...

Trakzor also provides both a list format, although not quite as full-featured as Mixmap’s, and a Google map with markers. Clicking each marker reveals the identity of that person as well as a link back to their Myspace profile should they too be registered Trakzor users.

Privacy and user deniability:
Mixmap users are afforded a great amount of flexibility when selecting their tracker. They can choose to use the map style Myspace tracker, a customizable image tracker, and more importantly, they can opt for an invisible Myspace profile tracker. Something that Trakzor has yet to implement.

Trakzor does things a little differently. Their users have only one option; the “You’ve been tracked”, Trakzor image. This means that anyone viewing your Myspace profile will clearly know that they are being tracked. However, Trakzor has provided a Block feature that keeps YOU from being tracked while visiting another Trakzor’d Myspace profiles. You have the option of selecting a BLOCK ALL feature that keeps all your Myspace visits anonymous or, you can put together a set of targeted permissions using a BLOCK LIST. Not quite as nice as Mixmap, but at least they’re trying.

Overall feel:
This is where you’ll see the biggest difference between Mixmap and Trakzor. The Mixmap site has more of a “community” feel. Upon registering your user information is used to create a personal profile page (name, address, location, birthday, occupation, favorite website, uploading of pics, etc…). This information, although it can optionally be set to hidden, becomes part of the Mixmap user community where it can be searched by distance, city, gender, etc…

The Trakzor experience is quite different. The order of business there is simply to track your visitors and that’s it. You login, check what you have to check and you leave. That is the idea isn’t it; Tracking Myspace vistors?

Tracker Reliablity:
As of late, Mixmap has been intermittently on/offline with no real explanation. Users simply encounter a generic browser “unable to connect” page. When Mixmap does happen to be online, quick visits to their announcements page do little to nothing to point out any problems or possible scheduled maintenance. Instead, users are left in the dark. Update October 13, 2006: Things have been running pretty smoothly over at Mixmap since the date of this post. I exchanged a few emails with Matt, the Mixmap founder, and he explained the reason for their downtime. He's also been working hard and communicating his efforts with his users via the Mixmap announcement page. The only complaints I had have now been resolved and I think Mixmap has earned a second look.

Trakzor, well, has no problems that I’ve encountered.

Reachability:
On a more personal note, I’ll add that contacting someone at Mixmap, at least for me, was near impossible. The few emails that I sent, hoping to get more detailed information regarding the outages, went unanswered. Hey, I tried! This is no longer the case.

Questions to Trakzor, on the other hand were answered the same day, by the Trakzor creator nonetheless; kudos to him for being reachable.

Tracker Popularity:
According to Alexa traffic statistics, Trakzor appears to be more popular than Mixmap. Practically from its inception, Trakzor soared far past Mixmap in reach, rank, and pageviews. In the past few weeks they appear to have gained additional ground (a flock of disgruntled Mixmap users perhaps?). Whether or not this translates to a larger user base than Mixmap’s approximate 96,000 registered users is of particular interest. Seeing as how both services require users to become part of an online community, more users means a greater likelihood that the person visiting your profile will be “trackable”.

Have a look at the following Alexa traffic rank figures for both Mixmap and Trakzor.

Mixmap vs Trakzor Conclusion:
I think both Mixmap and Trakzor have something good to offer. ~~Unfortunatley, with recent unexplained Mixmap outages I personally would lean towards Trakzor.~~ If Trakzor focuses on implementing a few new features, they could very well take a large portion of the Mixmap user base. Particularly, I’d like to see them work on a Mixmap style invisible tracker, a Mixmap style Myspace profile tracker map, and perhaps a simpler web interface. Mixmap, of course, already has those things.

If you're hesitant to give up one or the other, you can of course run both trackers at the same time and see which you prefer.

Code to hide the Myspace music player

To hide Myspace music player, copy the code below and paste it to either the very start or end of your Myspace profiles "About me" section.

Note: This code will affect ALL embedded items and stack/move them on top of one another. This includes the Myspace music player, Youtube video players, and anything else that uses the embed tags.

Tweaking the Myspace music player code:

The TOP & LEFT values are coordinates (+/- integers) used to position the Myspace music player. Top moves the Myspace music player up/down and LEFT moves the player left/right. WIDTH & HEIGHT are used to make the Myspace music player size larger/smaller.

Hide/Hiding the Myspace music player:

So how do you hide Myspace music player? Setting the TOP to -100 and leaving the LEFT set to zero will position the Myspace music player slightly off screen (see screenshot below).

The Generator blog scours the internet for interesting, sometimes unusual, generators; most of which can be added to your Myspace profile or layout. The Collage Generator, tarot card image generator, official seal generator, and fortune cookie message generator are just a few of the latest finds. Myspace implementation varies across the many different sites so covering all of them would be a little difficult. In some cases you'll be given the code to insert into your profile, and in other cases you may simply be shown the final image which, by way of HTML or upload form, can then be inserted into your Myspace profile.

Overall it's a great resource and a must bookmark for fans of image generators. You also have the option of subscribing to the Generator blog RSS feed.

Add speech balloons to Myspace images with Bubblesnaps flash widget

The good people over at Bubblesnaps have released an exciting new flash widget that can be added directly to your Myspace profile. By way of the Bubblesnaps website, you can take your ordinary Myspace images and add speech bubbles to them. The content of each speech balloon is of course entirely up to you and you can make them as funny, humorous, or twisted as you'd like.

The Bubblesnaps three step process works like this. You simply upload an image from your computer to the Bubblesnaps online storage facility. If you have any kind of photo imaging software, Bubblesnaps suggests that you work with images that are around 640x480. You're then reunited with your image on the next screen and through a nicely designed interface, you can add/delete speak and thought bubbles, type in your personalized text, and position each in its desired location. To finish, Bubblesnaps gives you even more options, the most important of which to us is the ability to post your completed image to your Myspace profile; simply click on the "Blog this Bubble" link and Bubblesnaps gives you the necessary Myspace code (Note: you can also change the size of your final Bubblesnapped image on this page - look for it). Your Bubblesnapped image can always be deleted via the Bubblesnaps website and currently they offer storage of up to 18 images.

Add a free flash Myspace music player to your profile - Tunefeed

Faces.com, a social networking site, has launched a new flash-based music player that can be added to your Myspace profile. The service, called Tunefeed, allows you upload your MP3 files to a music locker of sorts. Music that you have uploaded can then be dragged and dropped into your "Tunefeed" which can hold an almost unlimited number of songs.

A flash based music player can then be used to broadcast your MP3 's to your Myspace profile via some link code. The player itself allows your listeners to rate and comment on your songs. Even better, your listeners can subscribe to your player via an RSS feed; think of it as running your own radio station.

The site offers two services; a free service that allows you a 100 MB monthly upload limit, and a paid service ($24.90 per year) that allows unlimited usage. I think it's worth having a look at.

You can register for free by either following the green buttons starting on the Tunefeed site, or, if you find it all a little confusing as I did, you can go directly to the Faces site to do the same.

Here is the code for their SAMPLE player. You can paste it to your Myspace profile (anywhere) to see how it works, then, if you like what you see, go sign up to get your own player.

The details of any hidden Myspace profile that implement CSS styling can easily be revealed using the following steps.

Those of you that found my previous post "How to hide a Myspace users profile customization" overly complicated, will find this method much easier; both do practically the same thing.

As before, you'll need to work from your Firefox browser. If you don't have it (Grrrrr!), you can download Firefox for free.

How to view hidden Myspace profile details - step by step

1. Start your Firefox browser and go visit the Myspace profile(s) that you'd like to view or "un-hide".
2. At the top of the Firefox browser select VIEW, PAGE STYLE, then NO STYLE.

This will strip any web page that you're viewing of all CSS styling (It won't be pretty). Any Myspace profile page, Myspace details, Myspace comments, or items that were previously hidden using CSS, will now be visible.

3. After you're done simply select VIEW, PAGE STYLE (just like before) then click BASIC PAGE STYLE. This way you can continue viewing Myspace profiles as they were intended. That's it!

Userscripts.org has a neat script for Myspace users that essentially turns off the customization that you see on many profiles (just while viewing them). Have a look at the before and after below to understand what I'm talking about. By following the directions here you will be able to turn-off user customization on any profiles that you visit with just one-click - the idea being that you don't have to subject yourself to all that clutter.

Okay here we go.

Requirements: You will need Mozilla Firefox to implement what is discussed in this particular post.

How to hide, or rather, decrapify, a Myspace users profile customization - step by step

1. No way around this, It will only work with the Firefox browser so, if you haven't already done so, go download and install Firefox. You'll be glad you did!
2. After installing Firefox, fire it up and go here. Just to be clear on this, you should be reading this post from your brand spanking new Firefox browser. If you're reading this using Internet Explorer or any other browser, close it down and open Firefox.
3. Okay, so you're running Firefox and you're at the link from step 2. Click on the series of numbers (something like 0.6.5.20060727) located under the "Current Release" tab. You'll be taken to the Greasemonkey installation page.

4. Click on the "Install now" box. A "Software Installation" dialog box will appear. Click on its "Install" button.

If all is well, you should see a new window labeled "Extensions" and a newly installed item called "Greasemonkey". Note that it also says "Greasemonkey will be upgraded when Firefox is restarted".

5. Close the window labeled "Extensions", then close and restart the Firefox browser for the install to take effect.
6. Good, you're back! Now that you have installed Firefox, and Greasemonkey, the hard part is over. You're ready to install the actual script. Go here to get the Myspace custom style remover script.
7. Click on the link in the upper right-hand corner that reads "Install this Script". You'll be taken to a new page where the script will be installed.

If you get a pop-up dialog at the top of the browser with an install button, click install.

8. You should get an Alert window that says something like myspacecustomstyleremover.user.js installed successfully.

Click "Ok" to close it.

9. Pat yourself on the back! You're done.

Myspace usage:
Okay, on your browser status bar (bottom of browser) you should see a Monkey icon.

Clicking it will turn it on (red) and off (grey). To see it in action go to a customized Myspace profile and view it. Now, click the Monkey icon on your browser and refresh the same profile. You should see a difference. Whew!

Free Myspace poll generator - Pollpub

If you're looking for a Myspace poll generator have a look at Pollpub. Pollpub allows you to easily create your own free polls that can later be posted to your Myspace profile. After registering (yes, for free) you simply click on the "Start Free Poll" button. You then enter your poll question, the number of possible answers, and specify whether you would like to make it public (voting also open to other Pollpub members) or private (just for you and your friends).

After you complete a few simple steps, Pollpub presents you with a snippet of code that can be pasted to your Myspace profile, to a Myspace comment, or to your Myspace blog. The people voting on your poll get to see the poll results right after voting and commenting is also allowed. Might be fun! You can participate in my sample poll to see how it works, here.

As of this post the Polls are available only in black text on a transparent background - a user configurable (colors) version is at the top of MY Pollpub wishlist.

Make my Myspace profile private - How to

Q: How can I make my Myspace profile private? Good news! You no longer have to pretend to be 14 or 15 years old to get your profile set to private. Most of you savvy Myspacer's already know this - this is for the few of you that don't.

How to set your Myspace profile to private:

1. Sign in to your Myspace account as you normally would.
2. Click the "Home" link located on the top-left of your Myspace profile navigation bar.
3. Next, look for and click the "Account Settings" link located in your Myspace information box (it's next to your profile picture). You will be taken to the "Change Account Settings" page.
4. To the right of "Privacy Settings", click the "Change settings" link (colored red).
5. You should now be on the "Privacy Settings" page. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and under "Who Can View My Full Profile", select the round button labeled "My Friends Only". Click the "Change Settings" button and you're done. That's it.

This will in effect block anyone from seeing your Myspace profile unless they are on your friends list. One quick note, and do check this yourself, your main profile photo, nick, headline, sex, age, location, status monitor, and last login are still viewable even when set to private. Everything else, remains hidden.

How to map your Myspace friends - Frappr

My weblogs have been getting hammered with "Mixmap" queries all day long. It seems that Mixmap has vanished for some ungodly reason and the masses are out looking for a "why". It may just be a temporary thing, but I will be looking into it.

Anyway, it does open the door to new and exciting alternatives - sort of. If all you're interested in is having a map that shows the location of the people on your Myspace friends list (sorry no Mixmap-like profile tracking feature), then this might interest you.

Frappr has an easy to configure Myspace map.

How to add a Frappr map to your Myspace profile - step by step:

1. Go to the Frappr site
2. Click on the Myspace tab towards the bottom of the page.
3. Enter the URL of your Myspace profile and click on the "Map my friends" button.
4. On the next screen, use the menu on the right to tweak the zoom, name, map type, and size of your map (be sure to click the update button after each tweak).
5. When you're happy with your results, click the "I'm done" button located at the bottom of the page.

Frappr will prompt you for an email address and password (to save your map).

6. Click on the "Save my map" button

7. On the next and final screen, you'll have the option of allowing Frappr to place the map right on your Myspace profile (Add button), or doing it yourself. If you choose to add the map yourself, Frappr provides you with the code and a brief tutorial on adding the map to your profile. Done!

Funny Myspace photo generator with Zingfu

Good news for those of you interested in kicking your photos up a notch. Zingfu, a Chinese restaurant themed "Zing" site, allows you to insert photos into one of over one hundred funny backdrops. After a little positioning and resizing you simply click on their Zing button and you're done. Zingfu quickly generates the new image and provides you with the needed Myspace code. From there, you simply paste it where you'd like; Myspace comments, your Myspace profile, a Myspace blog, etc...

Aside from what they offer (just an observation on my part really) I must admit that I'm particularly impressed by the way everything in presented - very sharp indeed! The good peeps over at Zingfu seem to have a knack for detail and it shows. Kudos!

Disposable email address that auto expires - Jetable

This isn't necessarily Myspace related, at least not directly, but with all the different things that we go over here, most requiring email registration before you can try them out, I figured it would be something that might come in handy.

The Jetable.org service provides its users with temporary/disposable email addresses. Upon entering your real email address and setting a "life span" (from one hour to a month), Jetable creates and provides you with an email alias. That alias is then used for all your online needs (i.e. trying out new sites). All mail is automatically forwarded to your real email address for the time that you specified. Upon expiration the alias simply ceases to work and you can forget about it. Neat idea!

Embeddable Youtube player (adding videos) - PT 3

This is the final post in a three part Youtube how-to series. If you've been following along the past couple of posts you've read about embedding single Youtube videos to your Myspace profile (PT 1), and how to add the embeddable Youtube player to your profile (PT 2). Today we'll look at how to add Youtube videos to the embeddable Youtube player from PT 2.

How to step by step:

1. If you haven't already created your Youtube player do so now then continue with step 2.
2. You need to be logged in to the Youtube website.
3. Find a video that interests you - one that you'd like to add to your Youtube playlist.
4. Click on the "Save to Favorites" link located directly under the video you are viewing (see example screenshot below). A small window titled "Add Video to Your Favorites" should open.

5. Click on its drop-down menu and look for the name of YOUR playlist. Select your playlist and click the "OK" button on the right (see example screenshot above) to save it.

That's it. You can keep adding videos to your playlist using the same steps listed above.

Add Youtube videos to Myspace profile - How to - PT 2

Yesterday, in PT 1, we went over one way to add Youtube videos to your Myspace profile. Today I'll walk you through a second, albeit more complicated way of doing the same. Huh? Well, the idea is still the same - how to get Youtube videos to your Myspace profile. The payoff for all your hard work comes in the form of an embeddable Youtube player to which multiple videos can be added. Think of it as a super-sized Youtube player.

Buried deep within the Youtube site (okay, that's a lie, it's really not that deeply buried) you'll find a link to the Youtube playlist. If you haven't already done so, go sign up for a free Youtube account - you'll need one in order to get the super-sized player.

How to step by step:

1. Login to the Youtube website.
2. Once logged in, click on the "My Account" link at the top right of that page.
3. On the "My Account" page, click on the "Playlists" link (located under Videos).
4. On the "My Playlists" page, assuming you've never done this before, you'll be prompted to create a playlist.
5. Click the "Create playlist" button and enter the information on the next screen. When you're done click the "Save playlist info" button.
6. On the next page Youtube will supply you with the code needed to put the player on your Myspace profile. Look for the code under "Embeddable Player" - copy it!

Myspace, for whatever reason, has done away with the <object> tag. Consequently, these tags must be removed before submitting any Youtube code to Myspace.

Example:

Q: How do I add a Youtube video to my Myspace profile?

A: Youtube, has two options for embedding video into your Myspace profile. The first way, and the one we're going to see in PT 1, is to simply copy the embed code while viewing any video on Youtube. This code, having been slightly modified, would then be pasted to your Myspace profile or page.

Myspace, for whatever reason, has done away with the <object> tag. Consequently, these tags must be removed before submitting any Youtube code to Myspace.

Shozu: new one-click camera phone upload to Youtube/ Myspace

A couple of weeks ago I posted about Shozu's service. Since that post, Shozu has apparently been working on an even easier way for users to shoot (supported camera phones), click and upload their video to the Youtube site.

"...Aug. 15, 2006--ShoZu Inc. announced today that users of its free one-click image uploading service can now transmit video clips directly from supported camera phones to their accounts on YouTube, the Internet video-sharing site that gets a staggering 80 million video views a day..."

Since Youtube has an embeddable player that works in Myspace, you could in effect use the Shozu service to upload your camera phone video to your Myspace profile while out and about.

Trailfire: communicate your view of the web and post it to your Myspace profile

Trailfire, currently in beta, allows you to post floating comments ('trail marks') on any web page that you visit. This commenting can be used to stitch one or more web pages together, thus forming a 'trail'. The trails can be posted to a blog, to your Myspace profile (see FAQ link below on how to do this), or emailed to your friends. In essence, your friends get to follow the trail of web pages you visited, reading the comments you posted along the way. They do this by using a navigational arrow that is located at the top of each floating comment box. In addition to text, Trail marks can also contain images, video and other media types. Very cool! Definitely try this out.

A browser plugin is required to create and view the trails and is available for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. More juicy info on their FAQ.

Odeo Myspace double shot: Podcasting & Webcam'ing

Odeo has released an audio player that allows Myspace users broadcast their favorite podcasts right on their Myspace profile. Users can fully customize the look of their player by simply using the Odeo drop down color pickers seen here. When listening to podcasts via your Myspace profile, you have two options. You can click on one of the 1 million existing podcasts, copy the code at the bottom of its page and insert it into your profile, OR, you can record your own podcast and paste it to your profile.

Apart from the podcast player, Odeo has a video webcam player/recorder (the Hellodeo) that can also be inserted into your Myspace profile. You simply go to the Hellodeo site, click on record, and you'll be given the code to embed the player to your profile.

Meez: customized avatars for your Myspace profile

Meez is a site that allows you to create your own customized avatar - easily inserted into your Myspace Profile. Just a few of things that you can tweak (in their Meezmall) include: eye color, nose, skin color, hair, clothing, pets, backgrounds, accessories, etc... Once you finish creating your avatar (digital self), you can export it to your Myspace profile in several different versions - including an animated version (see below). Meez, provides you with some simple code that can be pasted into your Myspace profile.
