Over the weekend, okay, not really, on Friday actually, email "turned" 35 - that´s 35 years! Whatever your opinion might be, good or bad, you´ll admit that email has had a pretty nice run.
In light of that, I´d like to show you a way to cut down on spam while trying out some of the Myspace
goodies featured here on Web Tracker.10 Minute Mail
, as you might guess, is a site that assigns you a temporary
(ten minute) email address. You go here
, click on the "Get my 10 Minute Mail e-mail address" link and your presented with just that; an email address
that is good for exactly 10 minutes. The idea being that within that time you should be able to subscribe/sign up for some new product or site, get and respond to a confirmation email, and then decide whether or not it´s something that interests you or not. No need to give out your own email if you have no plans on using a particular product or service, don´chya think?
The landing page itself provides you with a countdown from 10 to 0 minutes at which point your email address self destructs
. Any email delivered to your temporary email
address should, in practice, show up on the same page. If you do happen to need more time, you simply click a link and the counter is reset to 10 minutes. That´s it.
Have a look.
