Myspace turns to Simply Hired to ruin your summer

Summer means that schools, colleges, and universities are letting you people out for some much deserved rest and relaxation. Leave it to Myspace to come along and put an end to all that fun for you. Remember that place you'd spend hours "pimping", tweaking, and tricking out your profile. That place you'd go, sometimes till late hours of the night, IM'ing your friends, sending pictures, watching videos, listening to music, laughing, playing, and bonding with your peers. Well, in the midst of all that is fun, Myspace thought it would be a great idea to send more good times your way in the form of a good old job search - only they call it Myspace careers - Yeah that's right, the "C" word.

Simply hired for Myspace

For those of you interested in this sort of thing, read on (oh, and try sticking bamboo shoots under your fingernails while you're at it). Myspace has turned to Simply Hired to bring you a searchable job database. Yippie! :) I gave it shot myself, but only for the purpose of this blog and, well, it's quite useful; useful in a "I'm going to work for the summer kind of way".

On a brighter note, when it finally occurs to you that you'd rather be laying out at the beach instead of filing papers in some office, you can post your horror stories on Simply Fired.

Umundo - cell phone video right to your Myspace profile

Cell phone video to Myspace profileUmundo is a new site that allows users to upload video from their cell phones directly to their Myspace profile.

It's very easy to use and no registration is required. You simply take a video with your cell phone, send it as a text message to video@umundo.com, and your done. Your Myspace profile is automatically updated with the new data. The code for your Myspace profile is available only after you've taken your first video and entered your cell phone number to retrieve it.

I'm not entirely convinced by it myself. The price you pay for "no registration required" is that you have no control over deleting specific items once they've been uploaded. It's a keep all or delete all situation. Also, it's unfortunate that the uploading of "photos" to your Myspace profile is not available. Hopefully that'll change at some point.

KSolo Online Karaoke for your Myspace profile

Karaoke for your Myspace profileMyspace originally existed as a way for bands to promote themselves. So, along those lines (sorta), I came across an online Karaoke site that might be nicely suited to this. KSolo is a site that allows you share your own recorded karaoke songs with your friends by way of your Myspace profile.

I'm not going to give too much away here because this is something that you DO have to try out yourself to fully appreciate. I have a hunch that most of you will spend a few hours with it once you give it a good look-over. You can listen to and vote on other peoples recordings and/or record your own. Be warned, you WILL sing...it's impossible not to. :)

The code to embed your recorded song(s) to your Myspace profile is found by clicking on the "My recordings" link once you've registered.

Here's what it'll look like once it's added.

Myspace Dating Status Monitor - part deux!

DatingAnyone.com Myspace trackerUPDATE: Site shut down on 6/20/2006

Sadly, the SingleStat.us party hats must come off for now *sniff*. They have been outdone by rival site DatingAnyone.com.

In there own words; DatingAnyone.com monitors the "Single/In a Relationship" status of everyone on your Myspace Friendslist. When there's a change in the relationship status, DatingAnyone.com emails you an alert."

Graphically the site is leaps and bounds ahead of the SingleStat.us site and, as if it needed to be any better, it's 100% free.

A few things you should know:
  • You need to be at least 18 years old to use this site.
  • Your Myspace profile age needs to be at least 18 years old

Props to Jared C for beating me to the punch - rats! :)

Myspace: Find out when your friend becomes single

SingleStat.us Myspace trackerUPDATE: Site shut down on 6/15/2006

Not too much info available on this but SingleStat.us is a service that notifies you via email, when a Myspace friend, of your choosing, becomes single - or at least when their Myspace profile status thingy changes to "single".

What does this cost you ask? You stalkers (oh, relax!) can choose one of the options below - gee, I wonder which one will be the most popular :)

  • Normally = $3.95 one time fee
  • June special = $1.95 one time fee
  • Mention the singlestat.us site anywhere on your page (including comment section) = Free

Tagworld Myspace widgets

Tagworld Myspace widgetTagworld has just launched a new site called “Tagworld Widgets“. I counted twenty-nine widgets “so far": there's the Tagworld video recorder, the daily horoscope, the sticky note, and for you old school'ers, there's even a Pong widget. Anyone interested in creating and submitting their own widget will be happy to know there is also a community developer section in the works – I’m excited about this!

The good news is that not only can these widgets be used on Tagworld, they can also be used on Myspace. I tried it out myself and apart from having to create an account at Tagworld to get the goods (an obvious ploy to lure away unsuspecting Myspace users), I really like it.

Once you create your Tagworld account the widgets are easy to install. You even have the option of changing background/ foreground/ text colors to match your profile. Myspace users simply select the GET WIDGET CODE option when prompted then paste it to their Myspace profile - the usual thing.

That’s it. Now go Join TagWorld. FREE Signup!

Myspace - Phishing Alert

Myspace hackedMySpace hit by phishing scam

"...The attack would not have been noticed by most users, Paul said. The attack starts when a user is sent a link through AOL's instant messaging program or similar one.

The link is from someone in their contact lists, asking them to click the link to MySpace to view photos, Paul said. The link leads to a fraudulent MySpace login page. Once the victim enters their information, they are then transparently logged into the real MySpace pages, Paul said...".
(Jeremy Kirk, IDG News Service) via link , techie version

Go change your Myspace password if any of this sounds even vaguely familiar.
